Marye Colleen Larme, Annandale High School, 2010

Marye, called MC by her friends and teachers, has a very strong academic record (4.3 GPA) and was one of only 4 National Merit Scholar semi-finalists  named from her high school.  MC has been active in the band as a trumpet player for 7 years and in marching band for 3 years.

She has participated in soccer and varsity track throughout high school, having been co-captain of the girls sprint team for the past 2 seasons. She is also a Senator for her senior class of 2010. Her main service activities have included tutoring a fifth grade student, building wheelchair ramps for the elderly in southern Virginia, earning her Girl Scout Gold Award by creating gardens and holding a gardening workshop for seniors in Annandale, spear-heading an environmental preservation project for the Chesapeake Bay, and packing medicine in Falls Church for shipment to third-world countries.

One of her teachers described her as someone who “comes in, does her job, is great with everyone, will do anything you need her to do, and is supportive, but in a ‘behind-the scenes’ way.” We are pleased to award $1500, which will go towards Marye's studies at the University of Notre Dame in the fall.
