Katie Machado, Lee High School, 2020

Katie is graduating from Lee High School and has been accepted at the University of Mary Washington.  

Katie has far surpassed the required GPA of 3.3. She’s been an active participant in music and drama programs—perhaps you saw her in Bye Bye Birdie, or playing the role of McQueen in the musical Urinetown She  was selected for District Honors Choir three times and sang with the choir in Carnegie Hall March 2019 as part of Worldstrides Onstage. Katie was named Most Valuable Choir member twice, was a choir board liaison in her senior year, and is a member of Tri-M, the Music Honor Society.

In addition, Katie found time for sports in her earlier high school years, playing goalie for the field hockey team.

Active in the youth group at Grace, Katie has participated in numerous service projects, including a mission trip to Honduras.

We’re delighted to award Katie the Jennifer Lynn Bernhards Memorial Scholarship for $2000 to be used towards her studies at Mary Washington.
