Lauren Baetsen, Hayfield High School, 2011

Lauren has been a member of Grace Presbyterian Church since 1993. Lauren graduated her senior year with a 4.3 GPA. During high school, her service activities included Tri-Cities Workcamp, sorting food at the Capital Area Foodbank, and cooking meals for the homeless, as well as multiple projects with the National Honor Society of which she was president her senior year.

All throughout high school Lauren played multiple sports including basketball, running track, and soccer--along with playing travel soccer outside of school. Lauren has always been active in the band as a flute player, a section leader and drum major. She continued to be a part of the band program when she went to the University of Virginia, and is now a proud member of the Cavalier Marching Band's piccolo section.

Lauren is a Rodman Scholar in the Engineering School and is studying Bio-medical Engineering. She is also a member of Intervarsity, a Christian Fellowship at UVA, studies in a Bio-medical Research lab, volunteers tutoring elementary school students and Special Olympics, and was selected to be a Residential Adviser. An active member of Relay for Life this year, she raised over $1000 for cancer research and plans to be on the Executive Committee next year. Congratulations, Lauren, on receiving $1500 toward your studies at UVA.
